DJH Landesverband Hannover e.V.

The idea of the peaceful coming-together of young people from all over the world is the core of the youth hostel concept, a concept which has lost nothing of its currency in today's world. Intercultural understanding and getting to know other people from home and abroad are reflected in the colourful life of a youth hostel. The promotion of environmental education and environmental protection has been anchored in the statutes of the German Youth Hostel Association since its very inception.

Hannover Youth Hostel Association, with the main Youth Hostel Association and a further 13 independent DJH Land Associations, together from the sponsoring body for the non-profit organisation Deutsches Jugendherbergswerk (DJH - German Youth Hostel Association). Management of the Land Association is entrusted to a voluntary managing committee which is elected by the general meeting. To deal with ongoing business, the managing committee appoints a general manager.

Our geographical area of work covers the region of Hannover, the rural districts of Celle, Gifhorn, Goslar, Göttingen, Hameln-Pyrmont, Helmstedt, Hildesheim, Holzminden, Lüchow-Dannenberg, Lüneburg, Nienburg, Northeim, Osterode am Harz, Peine, Schaumburg, Soltau-Fallingbostel, Uelzen, Wolfenbüttel and the independently administered cities of Braunschweig, Salzgitter and Wolfsburg, as well as the cities of Hannover and Göttingen, which enjoy special status.

In this area we currently maintain and operate 26 youth hostels, all of which are open to members of the German Youth Hostel Association and the International Youth Hostel Federation (IYHF), independent of nationality, race, religion or ideology.

At our youth hostels we encourage young people and families to be active in their leisure time with hiking, sports, games and educational offers, rest-and-relaxation activities, preventive health care, the conscious experiencing of culture, landscape, nature and the environment, as well as through active environmental protection and nature conservation. The needs of disabled people are also taken into consideration and catered for.

The Hannover Youth Hostel Association is completely independent in terms of political and religious affiliation and exclusively and directly pursues welfare objectives associated with youth support and in compliance with the Section headed "Tax-privileged Purposes" of the 1977 Tax Regulations of March 16, 1976 as amended.

In the interest of our guests, this means that we orient our price policy on actual costs incurred and not on the principle of maximising profit. However, the German Youth Hostel Association is not only a company pursuing ideals, but also a business. As one of the few facilities involved in youth support, the German Youth Hostel Association is itself in a position to cover the costs of its running operations. In addition, the Association also generates part of the finance necessary for its investments.
