Lakes - Cities - Culture

Surf on Steinhuder Meer in the morning, look at ancient Egyptian art in Hildesheim in the afternoon and go to a concert in Hannover in the evening - such a combination is only possible in the tourist region of Hannover.

Surfing, sailing, beach fun: Steinhuder Meer is north-western Germany's biggest inland lake and thanks to its white sandy beaches and a gently shelving and safe lake bottom it is also ideal for families with children. On excursions around the lake's perimeter you will find a unique natural landscape with marsh areas and more than one paradise for birds.

The Herrenhäuser Gardens, cultural sights and fabulous events make Hannover into a year-round jewel of tourism: street cabaret, old churches and the Altes Rathaus (Old Town Hall), the Leineschloss castle and the Maschsee (lake). Rock and pop concerts in the AWD-Arena or on the park stage, the annual Maschsee festival and the world-famous Schützenfest fair attract countless visitors to the capital of Lower Saxony, while the Adventure Zoo and the SEA LIFE Center are magnets for children.

Hildesheim, Lower Saxony's "secret culture capital" thrills with its half-timbered houses dating back to the Middle Ages and its other historical buildings - including the two UNESCO World Heritage monuments - the cathedral with its world-renowned 1,000-year-old rosebush and St. Michael's. Are you interested in ancient Egyptian artefacts or ancient Peru? You will find important collections in the Roemer- und Pelizaeus-Museum. However, bulls have to stay outside - because this is where the legendary Ernst-Ohlmer collections of Chinese porcelain are kept.

A lot of time is needed to discover everything. Which means that there is a real "danger of addiction" - guaranteeing that you will want to return to the tourist region of Hannover.
