In the Phæno you can join your children in exploring fundamental themes associated with science and technology at no less than 300 experimental stations.

The Elm-Lappwald nature park is nothing less than the pièce de resistance, and with the biggest and finest beech forest in North Germany, lends the landscape its character. On another note, archaic hunting weapons have been found in the vicinity of Schöningen - the so-called "Schöning spears", estimated to be no less than 400,000 years old. And not least, the rogue Till Eulenspiegel was born in Schöppenstedt.

The city of Braunschweig blends tradition with high tech. You can almost feel the history of the Burgplatz, Altstadtmarkt, Magniviertel, Michaelis and Aegidien, where the picturesque half-timbered buildings and architectural monuments date back to the Middle Ages. With the technical university and countless research facilities, Braunschweig is Europe's most research-intensive region. Here, at the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (National Metrology Institute), time is "made", while the Luftfahrt-Bundesamt (Federal Aviation Agency) ensures that we can safely travel the world by air.
