Welcome to the capital city of Lower Saxony!

Hanover is a city of many parts: the venue for the last World Exposition, a big city in the open countryside, Europe’s largest trade-fair site, and a sport metropolis. But even the most flattering of epithets can convey little of the diversity of this city on the banks of the river Leine; and certainly not do justice to its very special charm..

Your best bet is to experience Hanover personally – for example on a stroll through the city streets: street art, half-timbered buildings, old churches, the Altes Rathaus (Old Town Hall), the Leineschloss (Leine Castle) and Großer Garten, the Maschsee (a lake in the middle of the city) and the Eilenriede (a city forest). Discover the very special appeal of Linden, the Oststadt (eastern part of the city) or Mitte (city centre). You can look forward to colourful city districts and a warm welcome from the hospitable Hanoverians.

Hanover has also established itself as one of the most important centres of business and finance in northern Germany. Thanks to a tradition of more than forty years as a trade-fair city and as the first German town to stage a World Exposition - EXPO 2000 – this charming capital on the river Leine enjoys a worldwide reputation.
