Three rivers and a multitude of half-timbered buildings: Hann. Münden

We wish you a warm welcome to the southern tip of Weserbergland! Hann. Münden is situated where the rivers Werra and Fulda flow into the river Weser, in the middle of the forested hills of the Kaufunger, Bram and Reinhard forests. The half-timbered town of European fame was described by Alexander von Humboldt as enjoying one of the world's most beautiful settings.

The compact medieval appearance of the three-river town is a great attraction. More than 700 half-timbered houses dating back six centuries, fortified towers and the residues of fortified city walls document the citizens' pride and affluence in times gone by. A significant aspect of the city's wealth was above all the so-called "Stapelrecht", which was practised for almost 600 years and permitted business people to offer their wares for sale in the town.

In spite of its colourful history of shipping, trade and craftsmanship – Hann. Münden is certainly no "city of the past". This is proven not least by a good dozen awards, among which is the Gold Medal in the nationwide competition "Town character and the protection of historic buildings in town planning".
