Living for sport

It is not only the heathland itself which is a true paradise for hikers and cyclists. Tennis courts, three gymnasiums, sports fields, a fitness centre and of course no lack of forest in and around Hankensbüttel provide an open invitation to jogging, walking and a wide range of sporting activities.

And because Lüneburg Heath knows neither wind nor hills, it is a great place for cycling. The region around Hankensbüttel can be thoroughly explored on two wheels. You can either set off on one of the tours planned with the help of the DJH youth hostel team or just take off for your own independent sightseeing by bike.

More exercise and diversion can be found on the outskirts of Hankensbüttel at Lake Isenhagen, where you can also rent a boat or settle down for a quiet spot of fishing. And in the close vicinity of the youth hostel, the Waldbad (Forest swimming pool) offers a heated diving and non-swimmer pool, as well as a large paddling pool and spacious areas for relaxing or playing games.
