Hankensbüttel:
Enjoy the flowering of the heather and take a trip through history.

Hankensbüttel is not only an attraction in late summer, when the flowering of the heather brings so many visitors to Lüneburg Heath. But it is precisely at this most beautiful time of the year that the quiet, the relaxed atmosphere, the peaceful hiking trails between juniper bushes and the forest, the moorland sheep, the bees and not least the sedate farmhouses are so very special.

The moor landscape and Hankensbüttel can of course be savoured and admirably enjoyed at any time of the year. A walk through the town reveals many witnesses of the past. The almost 1000- year-old Roman church of St. Pankratius even boasts a baroque altar which is well worth visiting.

The church of the former convent in Isenhagen, with its Gothic Madonna altar, cloisters and convent courtyard is a living witness to the Middle Ages. The convent courtyard museum is located in the former brewery; here, the historic living and working worlds of the convent come to life again. The neighbouring herb garden laid out in convent tradition features a large number of herbs and medicinal plants which were used in convent medicine.
