In Göttingen there is virtually no sport that you cannot take part in. Heated open-air swimming pools, an adventure pool, modern sports stadiums and gymnasiums, tennis courts and the 15-hectare Kiessee - an Eldorado for water sports - are all conveniently accessible for satisfying any need for exercise.
However, there is also a wide range of activities for those without sporting or cultural inclinations - for example, a stroll through the pedestrian precinct or a walk along the many charming paths of the Hainberg. And for those who would like to see the sights of Göttingen from far above, there is the Bismarck tower, from where you can enjoy the fantastic panoramic view.
An Eldorado for nature lovers, a fairy-tale countryside for hikers: all around the university town you can explore the hills and valleys of the South Lower Saxony mountain landscape on foot or by bike. Alternatively, you can visit the nature reserves of Münden, Kaufunger Wald, Meißner and Solling-Vogler. And not least, the Harz Mountains can be reached in just a few minutes by car.
