Beware of Göttingen's infectious joie de vivre
The centre of the old city boasts many well preserved or restored buildings. But no less impressive are the university art collection, the Museum of Ethnology (das Museum für Völkerkunde), the Municipal Museum (das Städtische Museum), the State Archives (das Staatliche Archivlager) and the Botanic Garden (der Botanische Garten).
The Deutsches Theater has an outstanding reputation, not least due to its famous directors and artists. And no less interesting is a visit to Junges Theater, which tends to present problemoriented pieces.
On a more relaxed note, fun diversions are to be found in plenty: whether in discotheques, music bars or street cafés, or at craftwork or cabaret events, the traditional Schützenfest fair, the spring or autumn festivals, or the atmospheric Christmas market - wherever you go, you will encounter young people from all over the world and the typical Göttingen joie de vivre.
